This Spiritual Reading Blog is part of the Come & See process for renewal in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds, England.

Through this Blog we hope to promote spiritual reading by suggesting, every few months, a book which we think is worth reading (we gain nothing financially from promoting any title – we simply think it is good reading!). The books will be chosen because they offer some insight into Christian spirituality and discipleship today. Details of the chosen book will be posted on the Blog together with information about how to obtain it. There will also be links to useful websites connected with the book. To participate, simply buy the book and begin reading it. You can do this by yourself or get together with a group – friends, colleagues, fellow parishioners – reading a chapter or two and then meeting up to share and reflect. As you read, whether as an individual or as a group, you can post your comments on the Blog for other people to see. You can also view other people’s comments which may enrich your own understanding (we do reserve the right not to post any comments which we feel are inappropriate).

Join us in reading With Empty Hands: the message of St Therese of Lisieux by Conrad de Meester

To view details of individual books, and to read or submit comments, simply click on the title at the top of this page. We hope this Blog is a help to your spiritual life and we look forward to receiving your comments.

Fr. John Wilson
Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation
Diocese of Leeds

Two Possible Ways of Approaching Reading
1. You could read a recommended book by yourself and make a comment on the Blog as you finish each chapter.
2. You could get together with another or others and form a Book Club. Then, reading the book chapter by chapter, you could meet up regularly to share your thoughts. After each meeting, you could then submit the collective wisdom of your group to the Blog. There is already one group committed to meeting on a fortnightly basis in the diocese.

The great thing about the Blog is that you can not only share your views, but read those of others which might then give you more insight and greater understanding.
We would be delighted to hear what you think of ‘God is not Angry’ & ‘Your Sins Are Forgiven’ and Finding Sanctuary.

“The Spiritual Reading online bookclub is ideal for me. I have a young daughter and my husband works shifts so I can’t join the bookclub that is about to start meeting in my parish. This is ideal for me. I can still be part of something; read other people’s comments and add mine!” Rose Lanigan
